URBIO (International Network for Urban Biodiversity and Design) is an open worldwide network of educators, scientists, government officials, and practitioners that promote the design and management of sustainable cities. For this conference, URBIO is accepting all proposals related to urban sustainability, design and management, urban ecology, policy, food security and urban agriculture, and human dimensions and conservation.
The theme for the 2018 conference is Food Security and Urban Biodiversity: proposals that address these topic areas are especially appropriate for session and panel discussions. Subthemes include:
• Food security
• Urban agriculture
• Urban biodiversity
• Conservation development
• Human dimension
• Landscape design
• Planning and policy
• Public engagement and education
• Water and energy
Sessions are a series of presentations that address a single topic. Speakers are scheduled for 15-minute slots, and organizers can propose a group of 5 for one 90-minute session (double sessions can also be proposed around a topic). Proposals must be submitted by 15 March 2018.
Panel Discussions are a forum for interactive discussion of a topic among a panel of experts and an interested audience. Panel discussions are a quarter day in length (90 minutes). Typically, four to eight speakers make short, introductory remarks and then the audience is invited to make comments and put questions to the panel. Proposals must be submitted by 15 March 2018.
Oral presentations will be scheduled for 15 minutes, which includes 12 minutes for the presentation and three minutes for questions. Abstracts must be submitted by 25 May 2018. 300-word abstract.
Contributed Posters will be scheduled by topic, presenters will be required to bring a printed version of their poster to display at the conference. Abstracts must be submitted by 25 May 2018. 300-word abstract
Session and Panel Discussion: Organizers are responsible for selection presenters/panelists, moderation their session. As part of submitting the proposal, you are required to provide names and contact information for each speaker. Session proposals can be for ¼ day (5 speakers, 90 minutes) or ½ day (10 speakers, 180 minutes). Panel discussions are 4-8 speakers and 90 minutes in length.
Please upload your 300-word abstract, and attach a (max) 1000-word full description under "supporting document". Include the titles of the presentations in your full description and add speakers as co-presenters on your submission.
Speed Talks: Abstracts must be 300 words or less and adequately describe the objective(s) of the research study, design, or project.
Speed talk Guidelines:
• Speed talks must be no longer than 3 minutes
• PowerPoint slides are allowed, but no more than one title slide and three subsequent content slides (maximum 4 slides)
• Presenters may elect to not use slides
